CHANGING SEASONS

Louise Balaam
BA Fine Art, Kent Institute of Art and Design
MA Fine Art, Christchurch University College, Canterbury
The work by Louise Balaam is rooted in the experience of being in the landscape, and her emotional response to it. She paints semi-abstract landscapes which are not intended to represent specific places, but instead suggests an idealised or mythical place onto which the viewer can project their own feelings.
"I strongly believe that the natural world is a crucial and irreplaceable resource, which we are in danger of undervaluing. It seems very sad to me that while people seem less able to relate to the natural world, increasing development and commercialisation threatens beautiful and irreplaceable places."
Her own relationship with the landscape, with its particular qualities and colours, inspires her painting, and aims to evoke a similar response in those who see it. View the work.
