CHANGING SEASONS

Yvonne MacDougall
Drawing and Painting, Edinburgh College of Art
Yvonne MacDougall creates large-scale mixed media paintings. The colours are painted onto the paper in washes. This process of mixing and mingling colour, ink and re-used paper echoes the creative development of her watercolour paintings. She is inspired mainly by orgnaic forms.
"I have chosen as a starting point for the Changing Seasons Exhibition the allotments near to my home in Perth. I am observing the changes that are occurring until June this year. The area is small and full of visual interest - organic forms, man-made structures, wildlife and people. Allotments are of benefit in many ways to the environment, to the urban community, encouraging human activity and interaction, a habitat for wildlife which helps with pollination, productive soil from composting fallen leaves and vegetable waste, the creative and practical use of recycled objects, and a food source for the locality."
"As a result of observing this area, I have also looked at the minute changes that occur from day to day in local woodlands. I have expressed my observations and ideas with mixed media, including collage with a variety of papers: handmade, pre-painted and re-used from discarded paintings, my ideas developing as I work."
