Perthshire artist and tutor Margaret Evans is currently exhibiting new work at the Ruthven Gallery in Auchterarder, and last month her latest book on painting in pastels was published by Harper Collins

Margaret, who trained at Glasgow School of Art and the University of London, said: "The new book, 30-minute Pastels, is all about learning to use pastels quickly and boldly outdoors to capture a moment, and indoors for portraits and still life. This helps to build up confidence for then moving on to longer, more intricate paintings."
Away from teaching Margaret finds time to focus on her own art: "I find inspiration in the many places we travel to on the trips I organise.
"The Scottish landscape gives a wonderful range of subject matter which helps show the pastel medium in all its versatility, from dry to wet techniques and mixed with gouache."
The Spring Exhibition at the Ruthven Gallery runs until June 3 and features work by other leading contemporary Scottish artists including Hugh Kirkwood and Iona Leishman.
