Paintings by the Cumbernauld-based artist Yvonne Healy will go on show at the Ruthven Gallery in Auchterarder in July. Yvonne, who studied painting at Maidstone Art School in the 1980s, said, "After taking a long break to concentrate on my family, I've recently returned to painting full-time after working within an art project involving various community groups."

Yvonne's reputation as an artist is certainly growing after returning to her passion and she has featured in a number of leading contemporary galleries across Scotland. "My enthusiasm for painting has remained, and over the last two years I have enjoyed the process of painting again," she commented. "This recent work has been received well by galleries and I hope to continue developing my work."
Brought up in Coatbridge, Yvonne returned to the area after graduating from Art College, She is one of the main attractions at the Summer Exhibition and gallery owner Suzanne Hay said, "Yvonne's use of colour and brush strokes in her still-life pieces make them stand out; there's a certain colourist-feel to her work, reminiscent of Francis Cadell."
Commenting on her own style, Yvonne said "I enjoy the process of developing a painting with an instinctive approach, using an economy of brushstrokes to depict a space or object, with the emphasis on drawing and expression. In my recent still-life paintings I look at the character or personality of everyday house plants. I attempt to create a portrait of something very familiar to us and present it in a fresh way; its structure, texture and its relationship with the space within the painting I let the the painting evolve, pushing the paint around and so keep the brushwork intuitive, with the immediacy of a drawing, making direct observations of volume, space and colour."
The Summer Exhibition featuring Yvonne Healy runs until 31st August.
